Open Call: Pan-African Creative Exchange (PACE), (deadline: 8/7/2024)

Uprise Rebel are pleased to be supporting the Pan-African Creative Exchange’s call for artist’s submissions for their next showcase of work from the African continent (and its diaspora) in South Africa in June/July 2025.

The Pan-African Creative Exchange (PACE), in partnership with the Vrystaat Arts Festival & the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa, is a multi-layered and multi-platform responsive organization which operates primarily as a biennial showcase & arts market and a site of provocation promoting the interdisciplinary arts in Africa. PACE was developed for African & African diaspora artists and for national and international presenters, producers and festival directors, providing the highest quality interdisciplinary arts cultural product from Africa & its diaspora to buyers, artists and the general public.

There are different strands to PACE: the biennial showcase presents full shows for tour-ready work; excerpts of tour-ready work; excerpts of work in progress; pitching new work; and it includes a PACE New Voices programme; critical debate/roundtable sessions; networking programmes; and key PACE programming events. Outside the showcase, PACE has also organized a producer’s shadowing and exchange program; dramaturgical labs; and the PACE Connection. We partner with various other platforms, festivals and artists so as to widen the reach of African artistic voices.

The aims of PACE are to increase the global reach of Africa’s arts industry to the wider world and to contribute to the continent’s development of future work.

KEY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

1. Artists whose work responds to contemporary Africa.

2. Work must be either tour-ready, a work-in-progress, or a concept in the early stages of development.

3. Work must be from artists or companies based on the African continent OR, for a limited number of places, part of the African diaspora.

4. PACE recognizes the African diaspora, which includes people of African descent living outside of the African continent, such as in the Americas, Oceania, Asia, and Europe, which is officially recognized by the African Union (AU) as its sixth African region.
